Born in Kampala, Uganda, educated at Uppingham, Cambridge, & London University.
BA Hons (2:1) in Classics, London (external)
Worked in the Admiralty Merchant Shipbuilding Dept, statistics section.
Then at St. Anne’s House, Soho, centre for Christian lectures and discussion.
Producing plays in St. Thomas’, Regent Street.
Acted in Rep – Amersham, Bristol, Perth, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Colchester, Coventry etc.
Advertising copywriter for a while, then assistant producer for TV Advertising Ltd.
Co-Founded the Ikon Theatre Company, which presented four plays at the Lyric, Hammersmith,
in 1961, including THE LAST ALLY (see Stage Plays).
Thereafter full time as writer (drama and biography), story-editor, director,
producer, even critic (!) - theatre, television, film, UK and US.
Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
Actor, writer (drama and biography), story-editor, director, producer, even critic (!) -
theatre, television, film, UK and US. And enjoyed most of it.
Writer is worst paid, director most fun, producer most agonising.
Now concentrating on writing and producing, the worst of all worlds. So why do it? Because my projects are great, my colleagues are wonderful, and my confidence is high.
