Recently, Michael Ockenden from the Eastbourne Local History Society got in touch, saying that had could provide a picture of Beatrice Catherine Seth-Smith (my great aunt, I suppose) from her time working at the Clovelly-Kepplestone private boarding school for girls in Eastbourne, Sussex. She taught French and German, and was known by the girls as "The Major". We don't know why - perhaps her stern demeanor, or perhaps through a role in WWI.
It has been suggested that she is middle back in this photo. Please let me know if you have any more information.
